Studio 9 In-House Chair Concept Contest
Brief
At Studio 9, experimentation is an essential part of our design DNA. To encourage fresh thinking and internal collaboration, we launched an in-house chair concept contest, inviting our architects and designers to step outside their daily project routines and explore new creative directions.
Participants formed small or even solo teams and went through every step of the process from quick sketches and idea boards to mock-ups and refined concept presentations. The contest challenged them to think about ergonomics, aesthetics, function, and storytelling within a single object.
A key focus of the contest was to let people see how raw ideas take shape, evolve through teamwork, and become clear design concepts. We documented each stage in detail, showing intimate moments of brainstorming, drawing, and problem-solving.
The jury, composed of internal and external experts, evaluated each design based on originality, practicality, and the emotional story behind each chair. In the final round, we selected a winning team and celebrated several standout entries that were shortlisted for their thoughtful approaches.
This contest was more than just an exercise in design; it was an invitation to experiment, collaborate, and push creative boundaries together. It reflects Studio 9’s commitment to nurturing internal talent and fostering a culture of curiosity and innovation.
