About Project
Tsiskvili Restaurant Complex Nominated for the EU Mies van der Rohe Award
Studio 9’s celebrated project, the Tsiskvili Restaurant Complex, has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award.
Located on Beliashvili Street in Tbilisi, the complex drew international attention with its unique concept. This restaurant-museum has been nominated in the Contemporary Architecture category.
The Tsiskvili Restaurant Complex is one of the landmark projects of Studio 9, led by chief architect Mamuka Chkhaidze.
Located in Tbilisi on A. Beliashvili Street, along the Mtkvari River, the complex covers 6,607 m². Construction began in 2002, on the site of an actual small watermill on the riverbank.
Tsiskvili represents a dialogue between history and modernity, expressed through architecture. The concept integrates landscape, exterior, interior, and courtyards into one unified whole. From the outside, you perceive the inside — and vice versa. Within this museum-restaurant, traditional and modern materials alternate to create a complete architectural narrative. Every detail of the complex reinforces this creative vision.
In addition to ArchDaily’s award, the project has also been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2022.
The recognition of Tsiskvili as an outstanding architectural project is significant not only for the business and its author but also for Georgia’s entire HoReCa sector.
