About Project

A Modular Pavilion for Cultural Performance and Experimentation

Tsiskvili Theatre is a newly built multi-purpose cultural venue in Tbilisi, Georgia, designed as a transformative architectural pavilion where live performance, fine dining, and public programming converge. Commissioned by Tsiskvili Group and designed by Studio 9, the space was conceived as a flexible theatre and events hall that responds to the growing need for adaptive-use cultural venues in the region.

Located adjacent to the existing Tsiskvili restaurant complex on Beliashvili Street, the theatre complements its surroundings while establishing its own architectural identity. With a primary function as a “dining theatre,” the project draws from a Western typology but reinterprets it through Georgian architectural vocabulary and materials.

The layout revolves around a classic proscenium stage, with a 400–450-seat main hall designed to be reconfigured depending on the nature of the event – from plays and concerts to corporate gatherings and weddings. Surrounding the stage are supporting spaces including a vaulted glass vestibule, a mezzanine balcony, a lower-level gallery and cloakroom, and technical zones.

The architectural language of the project blends classical cues with contemporary clarity. Traditional Georgian brick, concrete, natural stone, and dark-stained wood are used throughout the building. Notable design features include the arched vestibule, a dramatic red curtain framed in gold, and a feature stair that leads to the mezzanine. Public art is also integrated throughout: walls feature compositions by local painters and a large-scale licensed reproduction of Konstantin Somov’s work anchors one of the key interior surfaces.

Materials and lighting choices are central to the theatre’s impact. The restrained, neutral shell is animated by red textile accents, colored stained glass, and dynamic programmable lighting systems. The hall is fully equipped with professional-grade sound, lighting, and projection systems, allowing the space to shift between theatrical, academic, and entertainment modes with minimal delay or manual intervention.

Sustainability strategies focused on long-term adaptability and multi-use programming. The structure was built on a site with minimal landscape interference and designed to operate with efficient energy distribution for events of varying scale.

More than just a venue, Tsiskvili Theatre is a platform for cultural dialogue, experimentation, and public gathering – offering an inclusive, adaptable environment rooted in architectural precision and social intent. It is a living space designed to evolve alongside the community it serves.
